We were called out for an emergency inspection following the partial collapse of a building façade on Leyton High Road. The building had been inspected by Building Control and was considered a dangerous structure.

We were on site with the emergency contractor and inspected the building to give an indication of the cause of the collapse, initial condition of the building, risk of immediate collapse and advice on temporary works to make the building safe.

The building consisted of a typical London stock terrace, with individual shops on the ground floor and flats above. The front elevation of two of the units had become detached from the party walls and along with decay of the shop beams, the front had rotated outwards significantly.

There was no option but to close the road, evacuate the flats and construct a temporary retaining scaffold.
